  1. My wife and I had the good fortune of being put in contact with Alan to perform a pre-purchase survey and sea trial of a 2004 Carver Mariner. Alan was exceptionally thorough in his survey, wet and dry. He is very easy and outgoing. He took great care to discuss his findings good and bad not just with me but my wife as well, making sure any questions were answered. After spending the day with him I completely trust his findings in our survey and I would recommend him to anyone looking for a thorough honest service. Thanks Alan !!!

  2. I’m a first time boat buyer. Alan has made the buying experience a dream. Looking out for me far beyond just the inspection I find myself wondering how I got so lucky to find just a decent hearted guy who also has a wealth of knowledge of vessels. My family and I are confident in our purchase, enjoyed the sea trial, and looking forward to our purchase of a 33ft power boat. I can’t thank Alan enough and suggest him for any services you require.

  3. Alan goes above and beyond. He is an encyclopedia of boat knowledge, and we couldn’t be happier that we chose him as our surveyor. We have the boat of our dreams and we couldn’t have done it without him. He comes highly recommended. Thanks Alan.

  4. Thorough, professional, timely and straight forward are only a few words to describe Alan’s work product. I left a message for Alan after hours which, to my surprise, was returned later that evening. I explained that I was in a bit of a time constraint. Although Alan was extremely busy and in spite of the inclement weather, Alan took the time to get my survey done.

Following the survey, Alan took the time to call me personally and explained his findings in layman’s terms. Alan explained what the survey would say and what it meant to me as a potential buyer. Alan explained items that NEEDED to be addressed and items that he RECOMMENDED be addressed to preserve the life of the vessel. Most importantly, Alan gave me a fair assessment of the boat and gave me peace of mind on my future purchase.

Alan’s knowledge of the industry is remarkable..

I would not hesitate to use Alan’s services again or to recommend him to anyone.

    Thanks again for everything Alan!!!

  5. Alan just traveled to perform a survey and sea trial on a boat in Florida for me.

Based on previous good experience with Alan, as I couldn’t attend the sea trial, I relied on Alan’s knowledge and forthrightness to help determine if we should go through with the purchase, which we did.

I recommend Alan for any boat survey needs you may have.

  6. I want to thank Alan for his extremely thorough, professional survey work, his timeliness, and depth of knowledge which is quite apparent and freely shared. Both the in and out of water survey components were completed very timely, despite weather conditions. Thank You!

  7. I contacted Alan regarding a 2008 Parker and he returned my e-mail the same day. The survey was completed in a timely manner in spite of adverse weather conditions ( it was the middle of March ). I was very impressed with his industry knowledge and his willingness to answer every question. The survey itself was very thorough and covered every conceivable aspect of the vessel. I will use Bayside Marine Surveying again and will recommend Alan to anyone in need of his expertise.

  8. Alan did a great job and definitely looked out for me going above and beyond what a normal surveyor would do. Highly recommend him and will definitely use him again on my next purchase.

  9. Alan’s thorough boat survey found over $10,000 of repairs needed on a 280 DA I was going to purchase. After speaking with the seller with Alan’s report in hand, I was able to walk away from the expensive project boat. Thanks Alan.

  10. Alan came out to survey the boat I am looking at (2006 Silverton) Dec 27, 2017, yes, between Christmas and New Years, yes, when the high was in the 20’s, yes, when it was flurries when doing the sea trial !!!!! Never said a word about the holidays, didn’t complain about the cold, just went about inspecting, checking and explaining. Very good at explaining things so a novice understands. Very good at explaining what NEEDS to be done and what I MIGHT want to do. There’s a big difference! also, I have no idea what other surveyors charge, but the fee Alan charges is half what it should be in my opinion. You get a days worth of incredible expertise, at the boat, in addition there is prep work before and all the work after, to complete the report!! seriously, I am in business for myself and I’m not doing anything for a full day for what he charges!!!

Thanks Alan for a great job at a great price!!

  11. Alan surveyed a 2005 Sea Ray 240 Sundeck for me. Like many other folks, Alan’s review of the boat was very detail oriented. I purchased the boat without ever seeing it, but was confident in its condition and quality after talking to Alan and discussing the survey and recommendations. Alan is highly recommended for your next survey.

  12. On December 12, 2017 Alan surveyed a Sea Ray 500 Sedan Bridge for me. He was meticulous in his review of the boat and I particularly appreciated the way he sat with me and reviewed his recommendations and answered all my questions, giving me confidence to go forward with the purchase.

  13. I can only second all the previous positive comments. Alan helped us evaluate a Maryland Rosborough 246 while we are residing in Florida. He provided lots of support by phone, suggestions and advice as to how to manage the evaluation process remotely which was further complicated by the closing weather season. I was very impressed with his knowledge and willingness to share whatever time it required to support us. Definitely a keeper, and wouldn’t hesitate a second to recommend his services to anyone.

  14. I recently had an Albemarle 265 surveyed by Alan. Alan really saved me after a separate surveyor backed out on me 1 day before the scheduled survey. Alan scheduled me in on one days notice! Upon arriving at the boat the day of the survey/sea trial Alan had already gone through just about everything on the boat and was able to show me throughout the whole boat and take me through all the systems. It was clear that Alan knows the “ins and outs” of what separates quality boats from the rest. He gave me knowledgeable insight on the every aspect of the Albemarle. At the end of the survey Alan gave it to me straight up, he told me what was good and what was bad. He spent time talking about what I should take into consideration based on what my possible future with the boat would be. After having a thorough conversation about every small detail on the vessel I decided to proceed with the purchase with no regrets. Alan was extremely helpful in this process for me and
I would highly recommend him as your surveyor for your next boat purchase (big or small)!

  15. Alan performed a pre-purchase survey on a 15 year old trawler for us. I was flying in from out of state and he worked with us on scheduling and was very responsive via phone or email. I had several long phone calls during which he shared his knowledge and we set expectations prior to the survey date. His survey process is very through and complete. The written report arrived the next day as promised. Alan even made a second inspection of the vessel to gather more information for us. Once again we had several phone calls during which Alan explained the details behind the report and helped me interpret the results. I can highly recommend Alan as a excellent surveyor and would use his services again if needed.

  16. Had two surveys performed by Alan recently. He tells what is wrong with the vessel up front. Made my decision to purchase the second boat very easy. He answered all questions whether I thought they were dumb or not. He says there is no such thing as a dumb question. He examines every inch of the engine room, cabin, Hull, etc. His surveys are not rushed. The final written report is clear and professionally presented. He KNOWS boats. I would certainly recommend him to anyone.

  17. Alan’s survey of the 40′ boat we intended to purchase revealed some serious flaws in the hull and forward deck, saving us from making a risky and potentially expensive purchase. In addition to this, he thoroughly covered every other detail of the vessel, giving us a clear picture of everything we needed to do to make the boat safe & seaworthy. All this information is contained in a clear and concise report.

I have no hesitation in recommending Alan to anyone looking for a knowledgeable and thorough marine surveyor.

  18. Had my first survey yesterday. Alan was very helpful and informative. He has responded quickly to any questions that I have had. He was very thorough and concise. I really appreciated the fact that he not only took the time to answer my questions he also educated me as well. Hopefully his report will help me come to an agreeable price and i will have a boat i can trust and enjoy! Would highly recommend him in a heart beat.

  19. We are from Elizabethtown PA. We had a delightful and humorous experience with Alan. He is sooo knowledgeable and thorough. He gave us quite an education on our 26′ Bayliner 2003. We bought it and have made some of the many improvements he suggested already. VERY well priced surveyor if you look around a bit. I would recommend him instantly! He is a PRO all the way.

  20. Alan does a terrific job. He is very thorough and takes the time to explain why things need to be as they are on boats. Highly recommended!
