  2. There’s efficient and then there’s efficient! We hired Alan to survey a boat for us and we are so glad we did. He covered every inch of the boat and provided us with a multi-page report. Alan is extremely knowledgeable and professional. He did our survey on a short notice, reviewed the report with us and answered all of our questions. Alan is the real deal!

  3. Alan spent time with me before the survey helping me understand the process, various boating issues and, as a first time boat buyer explained many of the common issues. After doing the land survey we decided not to proceed with the sea trial and full survey. Alan was great, provided a partial refund quickly. I highly recommended Alan as someone who will not just do the survey but provide his professional advice throughout the process and treat you fairly.

  4. Alan was very thorough and helpful to this first-time boat owner, who was contracted to purchase a boat remotely from the midwest. Alan was extremely patient in explaining everything including what the findings mean, steps for rectification, advice as to what to next, etc. He was also very easy to get in touch with by phone or email and always responded to messages promptly. His work product was very comprehensive and he’s made himself available for follow-up questions as well. I would not hesitate to recommend Alan to others, especially those looking to buy remotely.

  5. Alan was recommended to me by a friend who has known him for a long time. Alan did not disappoint me. Within a week of me contacting him, he was able to complete part 1 of the pre-purchase survey (while dry docked) and told me that when we are ready to launch the boat for the year, he will be ready for part 2. We scheduled part 2 which was all of the in-water component checks and even though the weather was very wet and Noah was sighted at the dock, so was Alan already at work first thing in the morning. He took his time and was very thorough and explained everything that he was looking at and made sure I was completely comfortable with the information he was providing me with. During the sea trial he was very attentive and meticulous to make sure all items were checked and re-checked and his knowledge of the vessel was top notch. He told me that I would have his report by the COB the next day and it was in my email at 3:30. I could not have asked for anything more, he covered it all. If you need anyone for survey work, I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND Alan. Thank you again for everything!

  6. December 22, 2020 – Alan braved a cold day to survey and run sea trials on an 2002 Sea Ray 240 Sundancer I was contracted to purchase. His very thorough inspection gave me the confidence to proceed and provided support for adjusting the price to cover certain repairs needed. Alan’s extremely knowledgeable about boats and what to look for. In March 2021, he also kept an earlier commitment to me by stopping by my home when he was in my area to check out the hull of my 1984 Wellcraft Nova 23. Unfortunately, the doctor said the patient is very sick and may be terminal. I am thinking a Viking funeral may be in order. Lol Thanks Alan for your expertise.

  7. Great guy! Very knowledgeable about boats.. super easy to work with. I would recommend him for any type of boat. Would certainly use him again, if I ever need it!

  8. Coming from NY not knowing anyone in Maryland to help and I pulled up Bayside Marine Surveying, Inc.. I rolled the dice and hired Alan to survey a 2000 Carver 356 AFT Cabin that we are in the process of buying because of his reviews. I have to say he far exceeded my expectations. He was very responsive from the time I contacted him and scheduled us immediately, finishing within just a few days of when we first spoke. His survey was extremely thorough, capturing the true condition of the boat but most significantly, putting context to the survey results, imperative for prospective purchasers who may not be savvy. He very clearly articulated what items he considered normal wear vs. poorly maintained as well as estimating the related costs associated with servicing worn or damaged components and the impact of not servicing some of the critical components that may have reached their service life. I called Alan so many time’s with so many questions and thought he was going to stop picking up, and he didn’t. He was there from start to finish. I would 100% recommend Alan to survey another boat for me.
    Thank you again.

  11. If you want the job done correct, then Alan with Bayside Marine is your guy. Alan proved to be very knowledgeable and eager to work/help me the client, even before I was a paying client and just looking for good information from a professional surveyor! His honesty and thoroughness through-out the entire experience educated me immensely. Unfortunately, the deal did not work out because of the survey findings, but in hindsight this saved me several thousands in the long run. Alan’s years in the industry will show favorable when hiring Bayside Marine to conduct any of the services he offers.

  14. I hired Alan to perform a survey on a Sea Ray Sundancer 240 that I was interested in purchasing. Alan came recommended to me from a friend who previously worked with him. Alan was professional and thorough in both explaining the survey process and performing the survey. The presentation of the completed survey was exceptional and very easy to comprehend. I would highly recommend Alan to anyone interested in getting a boat survey.

  15. I had found a sailboat that I was very interested in buying and knew that I needed a professional to survey the boat. I started browsing the web and also contacted the GM of the marina that I owned a slip for many years and asked him for a few names. I spoke with a few of the recommendations and then I spoke with Alan.

The first thing that attracted me to Alan was his location, the boat that I was considering was on the Middle River and Alan is on the Middle River. I called Alan and we spoke for some time about his experience and his basic love of boating. The conversation impressed me, he was very open about any topic and his experience is very extensive. I decide to hire Alan and he forwarded me the contract for signature.

I had not met Alan until the day of the survey, October 27th. He had arrived early and had performed most of the interior inspection before I arrived. We then moved the boat to the haul out area and once it was out of the water he did all of the inspections. He really missed nothing and brought a few items to my attention. We then went for sea trials and he was below checking everything and mentioning to me things that he noticed – both good and marginal.

Alan and I sat below deck and discussed his findings and suggestions as the owner and broker returned the boat to the slip. I received the survey within two days and was impressed with how complete it was.

I strongly recommend Alan to anyone looking for a surveyor. He is a true professional and a gentlemen.

  16. Alan surveyed a 2007 Chaparral Signature 350 for me. Being from out of state (Ohio), I had no idea whom to hire for a survey/ sea trial. Also, not being able to attend the survey in person, and essentially buying a boat sight unseen, I was both nervous and relieved to have found Alan Gaidelis. I almost made the mistake of hiring an unaccredited surveyor and there are many out there advertising on- line. Like I would in finding a doctor, I wanted to find an extremely thorough surveyor.

I had the benefit of comparing the sellers pre-purchase survey (provided to me by the sellers) and Alan’s survey, and could clearly note the difference in detail and professionalism.

Side note-when I actually went to see the boat, the seller’s broker made a comment that I had picked one of the most picky , detail oriented surveyors, which made me smile inside.

Alan performed an extremely thorough survey, and went over the results by phone the night of the completed survey, until I had the written report in hand the next day. As a novice boater, he explained all his findings in a non-rushed manner. Having reviewed the written report, it was very professional without any fluff.

Having visited Baltimore several days later to board the boat, he even followed up with a phone call to make sure that my purchase was going smoothly. He also recommended a local transport company that ended up saving me thousands of dollars in transport fees.

Bottom line-I HIGHLY recommend Alan Gaidelis for your survey needs.

  17. We hired Alan to survey a on a Sundancer 320 that we are in the process of buying. He was very responsive from the time we contacted him and scheduled us immediately, finishing within just a few days of when we first spoke. For items that may require replacement he even provided sources and estimated costing. Alan has done an excellent job equipping us with what we need to know to make and educated purchase.

  18. I hired Alan to survey a 1979 Hatteras. He was extremely knowledgeable about all aspects of the boat. He was able to explain and answer any questions regarding the complicated systems on this boat. He also promptly returned all phone calls and emails, which were very much appreciated. I would not hesitate to recommend Alan to anyone looking to purchase a boat new or used.
