  1. Alan was great. Buying a boat from 1,000 miles away is not easy but Alan made the process easier and less risky. The company brokering the boat listed several surveyors, I randomly picked Bayside and was concerned that I was using a surveyor that the broker had listed. I was very impressed with how objective, knowlegeable and helpful Alan was in the process, before and after the survey. I ended up with a great boat at a fair price. I would reccomend Alan to a friend.

  2. Alan provided a pre-purchase survey for a 21ft Sea Ray Express Cruiser. This is my first boat purchase, so I obviously had no clue what I was looking at in terms of systems and maintenance. Alan was very accommodating and professional and took time to explain everything he was looking at, as well as answering ALL of my questions. I would recommend Alan to anyone looking for a marine surveyor and will definitely be calling him on my next purchase!

  3. I would like to thank Alan for his professionalism. I was originally provided with a list of surveyors in the Baltimore area from the marina selling the 36ft Doral Boca Grande I was interested in. After doing a little research on the web I had chosen Bayside Marine Surveying, Inc. Still being a little skeptical (you always wonder if when you receive a list from the marina trying to sell the boat could they be in cahoots), after having a conversation with Alan, I liked what I had heard and decided to hired him. I am glad that I did, Alan was very competent and thorough. He found a problem with delaminating of a small section of the hull which is being fixed prior to us purchasing the boat. He also went thru the boat with a fine tooth comb and provided us with a list of items that need attention. I feel that I made the right decision hiring Alan. Living in Chicago and buying a boat in Baltimore was stressful but having Alan as my extra set of eyes was very reassuring. If you are interested in buying a boat in the service area that (Alan) Bayside Marine Surveying, Inc s covers, I would highly recommend utilizing their services.

  4. Bayside Marine Surveying! There is no other in my book. Alan’s knowledge of the boat we were looking at was top Shelf!! Being a Master Plumber for 20 year and working construction . I know when someone knows what he is doing. He knew all about the make & model of the boat and the ins and outs about it. His attention to detail is very impressive. And if I had a question about something. He takes the time to explain it to you so you will understand. If you want the Truth and nothing but the truth. Alan’s your Man!!

  5. Thanks Alan for your expert opinion on your recent survey of 15+ year old CC my wife and I were interested in buying. It really helps when a pro (without the rose-colored glasses I wear every day) takes a second look. Your expertise to accurately assess the wet transom and poor stringers surely saved my family from a purchase we might later regret. I’ll keep looking for now and I’ll be sure to contact you to survey my next prospect…

  6. Alan was absolutely great. He did a survey on an ’89 mainship 36 we bought. Being a sailor and new to powerboats I was concerned about the whole thing but especially the engines. Alan went over the boat with a fine toothed comb and especially the engines. He explained everything in terms my wife and I understood but he DEFINITELY knew what he was doing. I have had 2 other surveyors on our other boats and none of them went to the level of detail Alan did. I would give him a score of 11 on a scale of 10. Will only use him from now on.

  7. Alan recently conducted a pre-purchase survey for me on a 32′ Carver. He went out of his way to make me comfortable with the process. It was nice that he encouraged me to follow along the whole process with him and to feel free to ask questions. I will give my highest recommendations to anyone I come across in the market for Alan’s services.

  8. Alan was great. Very responsive, practical, and knowledgeable. Just what I needed when I needed it. Thanks for your help Alan.

  9. Being a first time boat buyer, I obviously needed to learn a lot in a hurry. I felt I was at the mercy of the seller and broker. If I knew nothing else, I did know to have an expert inspect what I knew nothing about. I found out about the trusted SAMS website and searched for a name. I noticed that Alan was local and decided I would give him a try. From that call forward, I felt completely comfortable with Alan as he answered any and all of my questions and some. I know he had my best interest in mind, both in the mechanics and safety of the boat as well as my knowledge of it. You might say Alan had a good boat side manner as well being very personable. I would hire Alan again in a heartbeat and recommend him to anyone in need of an surveyor. Great job and thank you Alan!

  10. Had Alan do a pre purchase survey on a Four Winns 348, with a less than cooperative broker. It was surely nice to have someone on my side that really knew his stuff. Alan was VERY helpful in the entire process, and would HIGHLY recommend to anyone. Not only is he very detail oriented, and boat smart, but he is also a very nice person. Very personable and will take the time to talk to you about anything you might not understand. All I can say is you will not be disappointed with Alan, from every aspect he is very professional, and you will get your money’s worth from his survey. Thank you very much for everything Alan. You are HIGHLY recommended!

  11. Alan was very helpful and attentive in performing our pre-purchase survey. He made sure we understood all aspects of the survey and advised individually on all items that were in question. It was great to not only have a survey, but additional explanation on systems that were new for us (we purchased a boat that was larger than our previous one).

  12. I was interested in a boat being sold in Baltimore. I asked my broker for a list of surveyors in that area. Bayside was one of very few who had a website. After reviewing the website and Alan’s credentials, I decided to give him a call. He was very personable and quickly answered any and all questions I had about him or a survey. I felt I had a friend in the business even before I met him. The day of the survey, he started early. When I finally met him, he explained everything he had done so far and showed me step by step everything else he needed to do. When the haul-out couldn’t be done the same day due to high winds and I wouldn’t be available for a re-schedule, he made the arrangements with the marina and accomplished the task to my satisfaction. He also emailed me high resolution photos of the bottom from every angle, so I felt I had been right there with him conducting the inspection. To me, Alan was worth every cent of his fee and then some for the way he met my needs! I would do business with him anytime and surely would reccommend him to anyone who requires a marine survey. Thanks again, Alan.

  13. Alan recently performed a boat survey for me and I am very pleased with his work. He was professional in every aspect of the deal, from communication to scheduling he did everything he said he would do on time and efficiently. He was thorough and accurate and I will definitely recommend Bayside Marine Surveying in the future to anyone looking for a boat survey.

  14. My wife and I have been looking for another boat and ended up finding one way out of town (225 miles from home) and needed pretty quick a survey on a used boat that we felt was perfect for us. Alan was easy to find on the ‘net, contact by email, talk to on the phone, pay with paypal………need I go on about how accessible he is?
Best was the survey was done when he said it would be. He coordinated with the seller, had a local yard to haul out the boat, took a bunch of photos and made as thorough a survey of the boat as was possible.
We bought the boat, still keeping our fingers crossed a bit, but we are happy with our decision and simply could not have done this without Alan.
Best of all a neighbor who is NEVER satisfied with anyone’s work but his own, thought Alan did a great job. ‘Nuff said?

  15. Alan took the daunt out of a daunting experience of purchasing a motor yacht in the overseas market; a 370 Sea Ray Sundancer in the US, me being a buyer from Down Under. A professional, with exceptional communication skills, trustworthy, obliging; a qualified marine surveyor I have no hesitation in recommending to anyone seeking honesty and integrity in qualifying an investment in a pleasure or commercial vessel, no matter what region on the planet you’re from.

  16. I picked Alan from a list of surveyers given to me by a boat broker. WOW… did I make the right decision! I was a first time boat buyer and knew absolutely nothing about boats. Alan took the time needed to explain everything I needed to know in laymen’s terms that I easily understood. He also shares my excellent work ethic and sense of honesty and integrity. I would highly reccomend him to anyone. He just completed the survey on my 2nd purchase, a 44 foot Regal.

  17. Met Alan at Sunset Harbor on the Middle River. Glad I did because he performed a most professional survey on my Carver 444 CMY which will soon become our liveaboard home. I especially appreciate his ethic and business demeanor. We’ve had several subsequent conversations and continues to help in my endeavors. I have established a new friendship and will recommend him to anyone.

  18. I am pleased to be able to say thank you to Alan for his services as my Marine Surveyor…Was extremely pleased with his responses to my questions. I felt he was objective, thurough and appreciative of my anxiety. I feel extremely confident with his recommendations regarding my Sea Ray and felt I had a real advocate. I would use him again and recommend him without question or hesitation.
