  1. We were recently looking for a larger used deck boat, and upon locating what looked like a good candidate at Sunset Harbor Marina, we contacted Alan to do a marine survey for us. The 24' Sea Ray looked to be in good shape, but given its age (a 2001) we needed a knowledgeable person to make sure we knew just what we were getting. We found everything others have said about Alan's professionalism, thoroughness, and being easy to talk with to be absolutely true. His on-land review of the boat covered all the details we were looking for, and then his accompaniment on the sea trial provided us with a further level of comfort that the boat would perform well. His written report was received in a very timely manner, and was exhaustive in its coverage of all aspects of the boat. The information provided helped us to negotiate a fair price for the boat, and we are very happy with the outcome. Thanks to Alan, and we will certainly use him again for any future survey needs.

  3. Bayside Marine Surveying was initially referred to me by another local, well respected surveyor who was unable to accommodate my schedule. We initially started with a survey of a Sea Ray 310. Alan discovered what turned out to be $18,000 worth of repairs that the seller and broker were unaware of and unwilling to negotiate on. After starting completely over on the search, I located a nearby Sea Ray 340. Although the original surveyor was available at this point, I elected to use Bayside and Alan due to his professionalism, thoroughness, and extensive knowledge of the Sea Ray Sundancer line of boats. Once again, he discovered significant needed repairs that the seller and broker were unaware of. This time, the seller agreed to pay for all repairs and Alan saved me what would have been a $20,000 repair bill. Alan went above and beyond what I would have expected from a surveyor throughout the entire process of both surveys. He was happy to answer any of my questions during the survey as well as before and after the survey via email or telephone. I would highly recommend Bayside Marine Surveying and Alan Gaidelis for any of your marine surveying needs.

  4. Hi,
We were in a tight spot finding a surveyor and Alan pulled through for us. He was very thorough and very professional. He surveyed our new 53 footer and gave us a quick return with the report. I have worked with a few surveyors and I would recommend Alan for any of your survey needs. We have even kept in touch since the purchase, especially as we brought the boat home from Baltimore to Maine.

  5. Alan, thanks for performing the pre-purchase survey for our new boat and finding the fiberglass cracking problems we were not aware of. We were able to get the Seller to lower the purchase price to compensate us for repairs. Your thorough inspection of this vessel gives me great peace of mind that I have made a good purchase and have a seaworthy boat.

  7. Alan was the most informative and professional surveyor of the many I called before deciding on Bayside. Many others didnt bother to respond, snd when they did, I found them to be intolerant of questions and condesending. After hiring Alan, I was very pleased. His e-communication was fast and complete, as was all normal methods. Phone calls and emails returned in a business fashion. Meeting him at our boat, he continued to be polite, friendly and informative as both he and I did our respective work. (Betty and I painting, Alan inspecting) We felt very informed about the state our our craft, and indeed learned many things. All and all, what a great experirnce. Thanks again, Alan May you have fair winds and following seas.

  8. We recently used Bayside and Alan for the purchase of our 2001 340 Sea Ray Sundancer. I was very impressed with his knowledge and professionalism. He excited my expectations, and spent more time going over the boat then I had expected. He was enjoyable to work with, and I learned a lot about my new boat. I also received my report in a very timely manner. I would highly recommend Bayside.

  9. We were so pleased to have Bayside perform our survey. They were very thorough and due to weather and other factors, even came out on 3 occasions to make sure the job was done right. They turned around a quality report timely and were a pleasure to deal with from beginning to end. We will recommend them going forward and would gladly use them again in the future. Thanks again to Bayside!

  14. We reccently retained Alan to perform a pre-purchase survey a 24 foot Sundancer. The survey needed to be done in the early spring timeframe to meet my contract dates. We experienced an extended winter season so the owner was reluctant to remove the shrink wrap on the boat, and the boatyard was reluctant to launch the boat for sea trial. This had the potential to significantly delay the survey and could cause us to miss the contract dates. Alan understood the situation and despite these issues he worked diligently to expedite the survey activities. He spend a lot of additional time checking on the status of the boat and performing the survey the survey in peacemeal style to make sure to moved as quickly as possible. He did a great job of keeping on top of the selling broker and the boat yard to ensure we could meet the contract acceptance dates.
Alan did a thorough and professional job. He was very patient in explaining the details of the survey and his findings throughout the survey process. He always made sure that my questions were answered and that I understood everything about the survey and the results so that I could make an informed decision. Alan’s years of experience in the boating industry were put to good use because we wanted an opinion on mechanical issues that required disassembly, and Alan was able to suggest several excellent certified mechanics who were able to do the work. Alan was in contact with the mechanic to make sure we received everything we needed.

We were extremely satisfied with Alan’s thorough knowledge of the vessel and industry standards and recommendations, and his survey was detailed enough so that we have a report providing the exact condition of the boat. His constant communication during the survey timeperiod demonstrated that he was focused on meeting our needs. We will enthusiastically recommend Alan to anyone who needs a vessel survey.

I found his advise invaluable and would recommend Alan to anyone who needs a survey.

  18. We recently hired Alan to perform a survey on a 330 Sea Ray Sundancer we are looking to purchase. We were extremly impressed with the entire survey experience. Alan went through every inch and every system in the boat. He explained what he was doing, what he was finding, and discussed each system as he completed them. His explainations were detailed but still understandable to a non mechanic. The survey report is extensive and very organized. Karen and I enjoyed spending the day with Alan and we learned a lot about the boat and its systems from him. I woud highly recommend Alan for any of your boat surveying needs.

  19. My wife and I were in the market for a boat to replace our 1987 Carver Mariner. We found a 2007 Carver Mariner in North East, MD we were interested in. Since we had just had the 1987 Mariner surveyed by an excellent surveyor, I contacted him and asked him for a recommendation for someone in the North East area. Without hesitation he recommended Alan. We contacted Alan and after a lengthy and informative phone conversation we decided to go with him. As it turned out, Alan is a true and extremely knowledgeable professional! I've been boating for 40 years and Alan surprised me with a few things I didn't know. He did an extremely thorough job of checking the boat over and found some things I never would have thought about looking at! There was a mechanical issue he uncovered just idling away from the dock. He provided a very specific and detailed report that we used to negotiate some pre-sale service items with the seller that saved us thousands in future costs! I would highly recommend Alan for any of your surveying needs!/

  20. A couple of years ago, a vessel was taken as collateral for a blanket mortgage. Being a small Community Bank in Pennsylvania, with no familiarization with the marine world, the weight of the lending decision was based on the soundness of the borrowers and not on the dollar value of the collateral. With recent review of the lending file, it was determined an exact value of the collateral was needed. Before a value could be obtained, we first had to learn what we needed, and then, how to go about getting it. Mr. Gaidelis patiently answered literally dozens of questions about the vessel valuation process. Everything went very smoothly. Mr. Gaidelis made what could have been a difficult and costly venture, a pleasant learning experience. Thank you Mr. Gaidelis for all your help, it is very much appreciated.
